Cashel Community School, in conjunction with Cashel Arts Festival, presents an unique event commemorating the centenary of 1916. This event will take place on Sunday 15th May at 4pm in St. John the Baptist Parish Church, Friar Street by kind permission of Archbishop Kieran O'Reilly and Rt. Rev. Mgr. Christy O’Dwyer, PP. VG. This event is funded under the 1916/2016 Centenary Programme.
TY students from Cashel Community School will present a programme which will incorporate music, songs, poetry and drama excerpts from significant writers/themes of the era, both in Ireland and World War One. This once off celebration will include, among others, The Cantilena String Quartet, Derek Ryan, Thomas Grogan, Cashel Community School Choir and Cashel and Rosegreen Primary Schools' Choirs, TY Students in C.C.S, talks by Tom Wood, Oliver Corbett and by Pierse McCan on his grand-uncle, South Tipperary Commanding Officer of the Volunteers. Weather permitting, the participants and audience will process to the precincts of the Rock of Cashel for a finale.
We will also be commemorating Sr Rosarii O'Dwyer for her service to the musical life of Cashel. Sr. Rosarii was in Cashel Convent from October 1938 until January 2001 and organist in St John the Baptist Parish Church from 2nd March 1964 until January 2001. She taught music and singing in the convent schools throughout her years, as well as piano and organ to generations of boys and girls in Cashel and surrounding areas.
This is a free event but admission will be by ticket only. Tickets are now available in the Parish Centre (Friar Street), O'Dwyer's Pharmacy (Main Street), Premier Music (Clonnmel) and the office in Cashel Community School (Dualla Road).
