Based in Cork as resident quartet to RTÉ from 1986-2013 and now supported by the National String Quartet Foundation, the Vanbrugh Quartet has dedicated itself to bringing string quartet music to audiences throughout Ireland, having given around one thousand concerts in venues ranging from small country schools to the major city venues.
Their landmark first prize in the Yehudi Menhuin London International String Quartet Competition in 1988 launched their international career, which has taken them throughout Europe, the Americas and the Far East. The Vanbrugh Quartet has an extensive and critically acclaimed discography which includes the complete Beethoven quartets as well as many contemporary Irish quartets.
In 2015 the Vanbrugh Quartet established the National String Quartet Foundation as their legacy. The foundation aspires to support string quartets, chamber musicians, and composers of the present and future generations.
